AIMIM selects 3 co-opted corporators for one year

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The AIMIM on Sunday named three co-opted corporators, taking the tally of the party's representatives in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) to 36.In a social media post, party president Asaduddin Owaisi announced the names of Mohammad Asrar, Shaikh Ahmed and KunalKharat as co-opted corporators declaring their term for 2026-27.The AIMIM showed its strength during the first general body meeting of CSMC on March 27 by grilling the mayor and ruling party leaders on different issues. With its increased strength in the civic body, the party is expected to prove mightier opposition in days to come.Leader of opposition in the CSMC and AIMIM leader Abdul Sameer Sajid said all 36 corporators of the party would ensure the ruling parties and the civic administration remain accountable towards the residents."We want a regime of accountability and transparency with no scope for corruption. The city has already suffered due to communal politics and we want everyone to pursue the agenda of development," he said. Meanwhile, the BJP has 57 corporators in the house of115 in the local municipal corporation, and will have five co-opted corporators considering its strength.According to sources within the party, around 90 local BJP leaders are interested to become co-opted corporators giving headache to the local BJP leadership.The party had witnessed huge resentment during the distribution of tickets for the municipal polls with multiple aspirants for a single ward.
